It’s been a while since I’ve shot street photography due to changing priorities in life and changing creative priorities, but here’s a hanful of photos I shot in June with the X-Pro3, processed through the SilverChrome app I developed to simulate Tri-X (not available yet, one day…).

Here’s some pictures from what seems like a lifetime ago.

We photographers often fall into the trap of assigning ourselves the task of having to capture every trip in all its glory and not just experiencing it as simple human being first. That’s ultimately what the last year has been about for me. I love how 35mm Portra 160 looks anyway so I don’t think it’ll be much of a loss.

An interesting month! I had my opinion piece The Only Rule In Street Photography article republished to PetaPixel, resulting in some new traffic and Instagram followers along with a number of nasty words from folks around the globe down in the comments section. It was interesting to see everyone getting riled up over my thoughts on the topic. At first it made me doubt what I had written, but then I just ignored them. Problem solved.

Happy New Year to anyone who reads this journal!

My goal of 2019 is very simple — put people and experiences first, and leave the camera at home as much as possible. I’m having a well earned rest from creative ambition. Needless to say that I’m still actually making photographs.

I’ve been to the beach a lot. Most weekends, unlike previous years. Summer is again a quiet season in my photography. I just want to enjoy the bright, warm days with people, free of pressure to make photographs, which means occasional urban landscape and still life photography.

Racquet Film in New Farm threw an awesome 10,000 rolls re-launch exhibition party. It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other from around Brisbane. Scroll down a bit for those pictures.

Well, I had a 31st birthday so that was cool. I’m now really a full adult (scary, hey). I’ve also been shooting a bunch, and in the future you’ll see that I’ve started going to be beach because Summer is (almost) here.

Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of the course was that other than a few brief discussions, the technical aspects carried very little weight throughout each topic, which is true of photography as you reach a certain maturity and momentum. The cameras, film and choices fall away and simply become the tools you wish to use to execute your vision.
