Simulating Kodak Tri-X Black & White Film (Updated for Nik Collection 7)

July 26, 2024 by Nick Bedford in Tips, Tutorial

Updated in 2024 for Nik Silver Efex Pro 7. This is the best simulation of Kodak TRI-X 400 black and white film I've made so far. You can try it as well. You'll need Photoshop and DXO Silver Efex Pro from the Nik Collection, but it works best with Lightroom and VSCO Film 01's Tri-X 400 preset.

Is The Sony A7CR & 40mm f/2.5 G My Forever Camera? *

July 25, 2024 by Nick Bedford in Reviews

I sold my Fujifilm X-Pro3 for a Sony A7CR and a Sony 40mm F2.5 G lens, perhaps the last camera I will need. I know, it’s a bold statement. I wanted more and I know I shouldn’t.

My trek along the Tasmanian Overland Track was approaching and I felt that I would prefer to do the seven day alpine trek with a higher resolution full-frame camera, so I traded out my entire Fujifilm X-Pro3 kit for the Sony A7CR camera and the compact Sony 40mm F2.5 G lens.

July 05, 2024 by Nick Bedford in Black & White, Japan, Software

In 2017, I produced a small body of street photography work which I was really proud of. Shot on Kodak TRI-X 400 black and white film using the Leica M7 and Voigtländer 35mm F1.7 Ultron prime lens, I eventually showed this series of photographs in my first photo gallery at a former film lab called Racquet Film in Brisbane City.

Photo Vol. 165 — The Overland Track, Tasmania

January 17, 2024 by Nick Bedford in Colour, Backpacking, Journal, Travel

Well, tick that off the bucket list. At the start of the year, I and five other friends journeyed through the Tasmanian wilderness on the famous Overland Track, something I’d had in my to-do list for a long time, although I hadn’t thought of actually planning to do it any time soon.

A Journey Into The Stars — Writing A Novel & Narrating It

September 22, 2023 by Nick Bedford in Journal, Announcement, The Stellar Wind

For the longest time I had the desire to write a novel, to explore the inner workings of characters and create a world around them that could be believable, but I struggled for a long time to write more than a standalone chapter with vague plot ideas. I wrote a small handful of short one or two page scenes when I was younger, some related to my core ideas, some independent, but that was the extent of my writing.

Photo Vol. 161 — Blue Mountains Road Trip

December 17, 2022 by Nick Bedford in Colour, Travel

In the second week of November, I went on a little six day road trip down to the Blue Mountains to enjoy some solo camping in the Rav4 and relax with some long service leave. I only took a handful of proper photographs, instead opting to use my iPhone 14 Pro a bunch instead. Here are the photographs I took on the X-Pro3.
